The power grid is the most fundamental, complex, and under-thought about systems in our society. Without efficient operation, electricity wouldn’t make it from the power plant to your home to enable everything from your morning smoothy to brightening holiday lights. Like many other systems in today’s society, the grid is not set up to deal with the green transition. Growing energy demand, increasing amounts of intermittent renewable energy, and more extreme weather means significant changes will be needed to keep the energy grid reliable
